The Pfeife Smith World Affairs Scholarship

The Pfeife Smith World Affairs Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by the Dayton Council on World Affairs to award scholarships to graduating Dayton Public School students who evidence a strong interest in political science and/or international studies and who plan to attend the University of Dayton, Wright State University or Sinclair Community College. To be eligible for consideration, the applicant must:

• Be a graduate of a Dayton Public School including any Dayton conversion or start-up charter high school during the current academic year.
• Graduate in the top quarter of his or her high school class
• Show a strong interest in studying world affairs. Fields of study may include foreign languages, international business, international relations, political science, world geography & cultures, or other related field.
• Plan to attend the University of Dayton, Wright State University or Sinclair Community College
• Demonstrate financial need
• Submit a completed application form and include the following attachments:
 An official high school transcript through seven semesters
 A letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor
 An essay on a current world problem or event (two to three typed pages, double-spaced)
 A list of your extra-curricular activities and honors
 A copy of the letter and summary page from the 2020-21 Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov
• Have an interview with the committee
