Gary Mitchner

Gary Mitchner is Professor Emeritus of English and the Poet Laureate of Sinclair Community College where he was chair of the English Department and taught for forty years. He directed the Writers’ Workshop for many years. He also taught at the University of Cincinnati, Antioch University, Wilmington College, and Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. After retirement he began to volunteer: Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton Art Institute (where he is now a docent), Jane Austin Society of North America, Friendship Force (now on the board), Dayton International Peace Museum (now on the board), Human Race Theatre, Futurefest, Opera Guild, and Dayton Literary Peace Prize.

One of his poems was included in The Best American Poetry, 1991, edited by Mark Strand. He has published in The Paris Review, The New Republic, Shenandoah, Western Humanities Review, Cincinnati Review, Flights, and many others. Currently, he teaches poetry classes at University of Dayton Lifelong Learning.
